1. Review the admissions requirements.

Find out what it takes to join the K-State family.

New freshmen

If you graduated from an accredited high school and meet any one of these three criteria, you will be eligible for admission to K-State:

  • Achieve a 21 or higher composite score on the ACT assessment or a 980 or higher on the SAT I, CR + M. Most students take the test in their junior or senior year of high school. Ask your high school counselor for a schedule of test dates.
  • Rank in the top third of your graduating class.
  • Complete the Kansas precollege curriculum with a 2.0 GPA. Out-of-state residents must earn a 2.5 or higher GPA.
Transfer students

Students with 24 or more completed transfer hours must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on all transfer course work. Transfer students with fewer than 24 completed transfer hours may need to meet one of the three high school criteria listed above.

In addition, a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA on all transfer work is required. This will depend on your high school graduation year and the state of graduation.

Returning students

If you previously attended K-State and are returning after a semester or more off, you must submit an application for readmission.

Home-schooled students

Home-schooled students are considered for admission based on ACT or SAT scores or GED scores. We recommend that you start the admission process about a year before you plan to begin college so you have time to take the ACT, meet the scholarship and financial aid deadlines, arrange your housing, and learn about what K-State has to offer you.

After you apply for admission and scholarships take the ACT on one of the national test dates. We recommend that you take the ACT in the spring of your junior year to speed up the admission process. If you take the exam again, K-State will use your highest score for scholarship purposes. The test scores determine your level of preparation for college and help your advisor place you in the right classes when you enroll.

Then submit a transcript describing your high school program of study. You can submit a transcript from an agency like American University or you can make your own. Course descriptions or portfolios of your work are accepted in place of an accredited diploma.

GED students

A score of 510 or higher on each subtest is required if you took the GED after Jan. 1, 2002. If you took the GED before 2002, an average score of 50 or higher is required.

High school graduates 21 or older

Students who graduated from an accredited high school who are 21 or older must submit a final high school transcript or GED scores. If you have attempted any college or university course work, you must request that official transcripts be mailed or faxed to the admissions office.

International students

Submit the international student application and fee, along with translated official school transcripts from all institutions, including high schools and colleges. You also need to forward a properly completed and current affidavit of support.
